The root definition of faith is from Hebrews 11vs1 :Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen, Faith is a belief or trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to guide our actions, decisions and worldview. It is foundational to Christianity and provides us hope, comfort and meaning in our Christian race
We will use Hebrews 11 vs 1 to elucidate the word Faith. This word is both a noun and verb at the same time which makes it unique. “Now” in Hebrews 11 vs 1 indicates that it refers to the present moment in time or a sense of urgency indicating that something needs to be done or addressed immediately and also to emphasize the timelines or importance of a particular event or action.
“Evidence” refers to information, facts or data that support a claim, proposition or conclusion that is used to demonstrate the validity, truthfulness or reliability of a statement, argument or assertion
“Substance” refers to the foundational basis of belief that is the reality that forms the core of belief or existence. In Christianity it is linked to the existence unseen or the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen . Here substance implies the firm foundation or underlying reality upon which faith is based. It suggests that faith provides a solid assurance or confidence in the promises of God as contained in the Holy Bible, even though they may not be immediately visible or tangible. Thus is the context of faith “substance” conveys the idea of a deep, abiding trust in the unseen realities of spiritual truth and divine promises
Let us consider other definitions of faith
1.Faith is giving our best to God
2.Faith is patience with God
3.Faith is responsiveness to God’s word
4.Faith is waiting upon God
5.Faith is earning God’s approval
6.Faith is keying into God’s covenant through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
7.Faith is operating under spiritual grace and open Heavens through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ
With all the ingredients contained in the definition of Faith which includes the following key words; Now, Substance, Evidence and Hope. We have to put on the shield of Faith which is part of the Spiritual Armor of God. The Bible says without Faith it is impossible to please God Hebrews 11 vs 6. Focus on Jesus Christ as He acts upon your Faith. For with God nothing is impossible, that is for you to apply in all situations and in your thoughts, word and deed as you sojourn through life.
